When it comes to the best stairlifts for curved stairs, we’ve got you covered! Depending on your particular needs and budget, we can offer a range of stairlifts which will be suitable for most staircases – whether straight or curved. On the odd occasion, we will recommend a specialist stairlift which is more suitable for very narrow staircases. See stairlifts for narrow stairs.

We only recommend these where appropriate and always aim to meet your needs first according to your budget and staircase type. So, which is the best stairlift for curved stairs?

Best Stairlift For Curved Stairs

If you’re on a budget, we always recommend our reconditioned stairlifts. Purchasing a reconditioned stairlift can save you a decent amount of money. You can save between 20% and 40% of the cost of a brand new model.

We only use the best makes and models for reconditioning so you can be assured that your stairlift is of high quality. We will generally use a Stannah 260 stairlift for a curved staircase. The Stannah 260 is known for its high standard and build quality and is definitely one of the best.

The other stairlift model we recommend for curved staircases is the Thyssen Flow X, or the Flow 2. Both these stairlifts are superb for especially difficult and awkward staircases.

However, the Flow models are of higher specification than the Stannah stairlifts. As such they are more expensive. The Flow X and its predecessor the Flow 2 have patented technology which allows them to manoeuvre on very tight staircases.

So if a Stannah won’t fit, which can sometimes occur, we will often recommend the Flow stairlifts as another option when all else fails. Still, the Stannah is a great machine and a fair bit less pricy than the Flow options.

The Flow X Stairlift – Best Stairlift For Difficult/Narrow Stairs

Here’s a picture of the Flow 2A – the predecessor to the Flow X and you can see how nimble it is. It folds down to 38cm from the wall\rail when not in use which makes it very compact.

The Flow X and Flow 2 stairlifts are capable of navigating stairs as narrow as 61cm and can perform on stairs which would be otherwise be inaccessible for a stairlift.

Best Stairlifts For Curved Stairs – Other Considerations – Weight Limit

So, how much weight can a stairlift take? And, what if you’re over that limit? A standard stairlift is calibrated to take a weight limit of between 18-20 stone. So if you’re over this weight limit, you’ll need a specialist stairlift calibrated for a heavier user.

Heavy weight or bariatric stairlifts are designed with stronger motors and sturdier fittings. They can take up to 29 stone.

If you’re on the heavier side and a standard stairlift is unsuitable for you, we recommend the Bruno heavy duty stairlift. See our heavy duty stairlifts page for more information.

A heavy duty stairlift has a larger seat and this can present an issue on very narrow staircases. So if you have a narrow staircase, and the Bruno is unsuitable, we would recommend a Platinum heavy duty stairlift. The Platinum has a greater maneuverability than the Bruno, but has a lower weight limit (25 stone).
