The best stairlifts we have found for difficult staircases and narrow staircases are from Access BDD (formerly Thyssen) and especially their Flow X stairlift which boasts patented technology. The ASL (Advanced Swivel and Levelling) technology allows the stairlift to pivot and lift simultaneously. This means it can navigate corners which would be otherwise insurmountable for most standard stairlifts.

Above you can see the Flow stairlift side by side with a traditional outward facing stairlift. The Flow X ride position allows much greater leg room than a standard stairlift with its legs downward facing ride position.

Stair Lifts For Difficult Stairs – The Platinum Ultimate

The Platinum Ultimate is another, similar stairlift which can take a larger weight than the Flow X. The Flow X has a weight limit of just over 19 stone, and the Platinum Ultimate’s load limit is 25 stone. So if you’re pushing the weight limit of the Flow, the Platinum may be the model to go for.

Like the Flow X, the Platinum has a single rail which makes it more appealing to the eye than some double rail systems. It can also face the user downstairs while travelling, making it more suitable for difficult and narrow staircases.

The Platinum also has the “first step start” feature, which means the rail stops before the floor at the staircase base. The Flow X has a similar “drop nose” rail which helps avoid obscuring the passageway for tight corridors with doorways either side.
